Here's a pick of my system fitted on a mono. Does the job, but like you say is high and has to have the bag facing as shown cos it hangs over onto the seat.

Check to see if the mark on the plate is lined up with the slotted post and that the teeth on the inside face of the plate mesh with the ones on the drum.
