If the bike's new, get it back to the dealers and get them to sort it.

Also, get them to check that the rebound and compression are set evenly too!

I prefer the cleaner lines that you get without a hugger.

Go for a carbon rear shock guard and that'll stop the shock from getting knackered. It won't stop the exhausts etc from getting...

You may have to go to a specialist tool dealer for the 28mm socket.
Most DIY / Halfords type places do 27mm and then 32mm.
