Not 100% sure if yours are the same but my Bendix pads are MF Sintered, probably have metal in them??
Dont know for sure but I have no scoring on standard discs from a 996?

Check your chain tension before doing anything drastic.
It does need a positive input to engage correctly so make sure your lever is in the best position for your foot?
