As per my other thread about what chain is on my bike, sprocket has arrived and I had 30 minutes spare so thought I'd crack on with this little task.

Removed the sprocket cover to see a different setup to my 996 (plate with 2 5mm bolts holding sprocket in place) on the 999, and I'm guessing any Testastretta engine it's just one big (32mm) nut holding the sprocket in place.

Tried as hard as I could to get the thing to budge, but no joy, then it dawned on me maybe it's a reverse thread? does anyone know? anyone got any ideas how I can shift this nut etc

Pretty sure its not a reverse thread.
I reckon you've gotta do the usual lock the rear wheel jobbie. Either by applyig the rear brake or locking the wheel on a paddock stand.

Shouldn't be too tricky though.

Tried that Tim, Lily on the bike brakes on, in gear with usual bar etc from stand through rear wheel...

its a normal 32mm nut - that has been done up with an Airgun - needs to be "cracked" before it moves.

190nM is the setting - ferkin tight!

There is obviously a tab washer there as well.

A big bar and a second pair of hands helps - however you will be hard pushed to get the chain/sprocket off without cutting the chain first - I did a new chain and front sprocket (down to 14 teeth now at the front) last Saturday.

Makes a hell of a difference.

Think that's worth repeating, JPM, since you didn't mention bending the tab washer back...
