During qualifying on Sat, I lost the front as I tipped into Redgate during a downpour, it meant that she (and I) slid on the tarmac for 15 yards or so and then another 10 in the gravel. Which caused quite a bit of peripheral damage to parts other than the usual pegs etc....
But I must thank Fordie and PeteB, ably assisted by Kelly, Karen, Guido and PaulP (sorry if I forgot anyone) for all of their efforts to get me back out there again.
I also had many offers of assistance from fellow DSCers - much appreciated guys. It meant that the bike was getting sorted out whilst I could take more of a backseat and prepare for the first race.
Having had a chance to clean up bike #21 and take a good look at the damage it could have been worse, it could have been better.
The Donny gravel is pretty much like shot blasting material I reckon - there's scratches and chips everywhere!!
The crash bungs did their job though and saved a lot of damage I reckon. So if you've not got some, get some!!
She's a real race bike now!!!
The plastic tank faired better than a steel one would I think, paint damage only, there are a quite a few chips on the frame, the engine casing is pretty pitted, same with the fork legs. The usual clipon, peg, lever got damaged but these are consumables. The carbon exhaust guards, the exhaust can and the belly pan were shot peened too
So it gives me a chance to strip her down and put her in some decent livery. I may wait until the off-season for a full on refit jobby (paint the frame?) or fashion some temporary makeover - not sure yet.
A chance for a lairy colour scheme methinks!!!
Tim
