Help - Header Pipes Wanted

The puny headers on my SS are about to rust through.

Now - I know the 600SS has the smallest bore pipes of all ...
so has anyone tried fitting any other model's pipes ?

My experience with singles has me looking for pipes with 35-40 mm diameter.
(Now I've sold FE I cant even measure the std 900SS header diameter, so i only have the full race headers on the Beast for a reference.)

The ss ones from th e750 and 9 fit but the monster ones dont, i got a set of monster ones in my garage
The std 600 ones are as rare as hens teeth, im in trh eprocess of drawing up a plan as my mate recons he can make up a nice set of propper stainless ones.

I've been reading Greg's stuff at Moto One ...
http://www.moto-one.com.au/performan...p2vmodels.html
I certainly dont want any std ones, cos the bigger 40mm headers alone should give another 3bhp.
Why dont the monnie ones fit though ?
If its just the outlet to the zorst end, I'll want to rejig a 2-2 into a 2-1 anyway.

Dream on............some of us have been there already!

I pressed "post" instead of "preview" as I meant to add that the 2into2 from a 750ss produced approx 0.5bhp more peak power than the std 2into1 on my 675, albeit with slightly more (1bhp)mid-range gain. As I couldn't be bothered with the extra weight, drag and having to cut the bellypan I stuck with the 2into1.
But I do have the 750 headers and some high-level Microns if you want to make me an offer.....
Cheers, Paul

There's been a few headers fitted by several folk over the past year, almost all with dyno runs. I'm not aware of a single one that has produced more than 0.5bhp difference on a 674 motor...

Not even the big bore made 3bhp! In all seriousness, I'd recommend going the 583 route as you can be much more competitive without shelling out loads on trying to tune the bugga.

Let me know how you get on with the headers as mine are on their last legs too.

Cheers,

Ali

ok, so I'm still learning what works and what is _supposed_ to work, but I'm not going to give up on trying to understand why !
I'll check the valve and pipe sizes on my 350's tonight and post a comparison with the 583/675/620 engines.

Hi Again phil
The monster ones will foul the swing arm as the rear pipe protrudes further from the manifold before heading south between the swing arm.
The heads cant flow enough to make the big bore downies viable. If you get a chance take a peek at senna 3s bike, he has welded up an underseat pipe on his, Flowed it isnt and he still has the same BHP as me running std downies.
To be honest i dont think there is much to be gained messing with headers untill the head is sorted.
As ali says, I will be selling my BB kit at the end of this season if rumour controll is correct. I would rather have just as much fun on a 583 mucho cheaper.
