Ideally the alarm box should be mounted out of the way and the cable from the control unit to the bell box should go through the wall. However, cutting the cable or attacking the bell box would still set the alarm off (they have tamper switches) until the thief could destroy the siren. You could put a deterent dummy (or even a second wired bell box with a tamper circuit) at the front and then site the alarm box out of sight? There is usually a way! However, as with all things security it only reduces your chance of being burgled!
