Anyone got an idea on the cost to import an unregistered bike is?
When I mean cost, an idea as to how much it would cost to make it road legal in the UK (I understand there is an SVA that the bike would have to go through etc...).
A bike shop just round the corner from work is converting a brand new US-spec fireblade for the UK. The customer paid the same in dollars as it costs in pounds here.
Don't know whether you would have to pay VAT or import duty but the prep costs can't be that much (worst case you need a new headlight, best case a couple of reflectors).
Sorry, just realised that I haven't answered your question at all - I'll get me coat...
It's my understanding that Ducati UK will assist their dealers in providing the necessary parts and conforming labels/certifying documents for importing some US models to the UK. The pipes, headlights, reflectors, speedometer and emissions certification is different. You'll probably need to replacing the left switch assembly, the headlight (for left side of the road riding) and the speedometer (to read KPH), and computer EPROM (for emissions). They will then do all the paperwork necessary to verify you have a UK specification bike.

We still use MPH in the UK, it's just the rest of europe that use kph
