Thought for the day

I've been re-reading some recent (and not so recent) threads, and realised that I have made some unnecessary and sometimes thoughtless remarks lately. That got me to thinking about how quickly some of our recent controversies have gotten blown out of proportion, with a lot of things being typed and submitted without consideration of the consequences.

So lets all try to take a deep breath and think a moment, about whether the post we're about to submit is REALLY what we want to say. Lets consider whether what we've said is necessary at all, and if it is, then whether the way it is said is constructive/beneficial. Words are impossible to retract once said, repairing the damage very difficult. So spare a thought, and if it is not positive and/or constructive then perhaps its best to keep silent.

There, thats my philosophical, goopy bit for the day. I've mucked up a bit, and just wanted to share my thoughts on the subject.

Typical!!!!

After recent events why didnt I get an e-mail (in triplicate) to both my home AND WORK addresses informing me about this beforehand!?! If I'd known it was going to be published I'm sure I'd have thought of something to say but now I'll just have to jump to conclusions!
Actually I couldn't agree more with your thoughts Karen, thank you

i think alot of it is how you perceive the message board. some people write exactly as they would talk and are thinking at the time ofther saying things that in a spoken conversation would be retracted or changed when discussed . others think about what they want to say and make sure thier response is well thought out.

i actually think both are valid but we have to bear in mind how many people could read it sometimes out of context and be prepared to change our point of view. unfortunately by then often the petrol has already been thrown on the fire.

having met people you are talking to makes a whole heap of difference as you understand how they will react and take your often tongue in cheek comments.

well I cant remember seeing any out of place comments by you CO, but self evaluation and awareness is rarely a bad thing....

talking to keefer this week it was cear that he read and I read the same words but had a completely different view of the meaning. I understand this as I have in interste in how peolpe see different 'maps' of our world, but they were starkly different!

I guess I over analise sometimes (read often!) and take too much into what is written..note to self, take a chill pill

The use of smileys can help a lot with implication and intention.

Nice post CO.

If - Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!
