996 sps or 999

i am in the market to get myself a xmas present and am not sure what to go for both bikes that i am loking at have good and bad points
999= laded with extras new technoligy mor reliable etc but the 999 looks like it is well in the shadow of the new one and is going to drop in price not that much of a problem because i will be holding onto it for along time
996= top of the line bike looks to kill for etc but older and reliable ?? but will hold its money and it will always be a cool bike
what would you go for ?????? and why?????

996SPS - no question - an appreciating classic.

The SPS. It has a kudos that the 999 will never have.

in what country Tim?

fair do's the 996 SPS is iconic - not appreciating - but the 999 is a better "package" - handling, power, reliability, fun (dare I say it) - all round better.

But if its just looks - 996 is still fairly stunning!

Personally - I would go for the 999.

Really? The 999 handle better than the 996? Frankie didn't think so! More powerful - yes, but not delivered as well, but as for fun!! - my SPS was a lot more fun than my 996R (999 engine) - the power delivery was awesome - so I'd disagree with your point there too.

I think its time that all you 999 boys owned up!!!, I realise you you're all trying to maintain a decent resell price for your bikes and maybe they can be made into decent bikes, but they can't or won't be better than the 996 - no way.

Its like when Emile Heskey was at Liverpool and I defended him like mad, but once he'd left - he was a lazy, slow, overpaid,............

The SPS is an appreciating classic, the 999 is a depreciating stopgap.

Horses for courses maybe, but some nags just need to be put down!!

Tim

Depends on what you want the bike for. if its to stick it in front of the fireplace and admire while you polish your helmet then 996, if its to ride day in day out then 999. one things for sure u cant see what the bike looks like from the seat and the 999 is a far more usable prospect than a 9x6 . Having owned both, the 9x6 for a considerable period (5 years) I'm speaking as I find.
