Got a 4th Gen 20GB iPod for wifey for her birthday (Don't you just love those prezzies that are more use to you than the intended recipient!!!!)

Word of warning to all you iPod owners. Don't do what I did and let wifey go for her daily 10 mile jog with her iPod. They're more or less a computer hard drive and regular jolts and constant vibrations cause them to lock up.

(Having said that, could also have been cos she was listening to bluddy ABBA Gold at the time - I've warned her it was not for that purpose and she's promised she won't do it again - play cr@p music on it that is!!!!)..

Sorry Nat but yes, you don't want a hard drive player for jogging because hard drives are mechanical devices with bearings in them etc - jogging will cane them.

For jogging you want a solid state player like the iRiver range (iRiver do hard drive players as well). I was going to get a 1GB one for running etc ...

I use mine in the gym daily without problem, but I'm sure it depends where you wear it. 'Tis true that they're just a hard disk, but they have loads of buffering built in so the shocks need to be fairly frequent and severe to cause trouble.

If she's using a treadmill then get her to rest the ipod on the handrail. If she's out jogging a decent arm-band case might work. Otherwise you'll be mostly getting her a new ipod shuffle...

Cheers,

ali

If you really want to hear the music on an iPod, then also buy a good pair of headphones. I prefer ones that are designed to block-out surrounding noise, which is nice when you travel.

I recommend the ER-4P or the 6i models for use under a helmet, not that I would condone wearing them while riding

I just ordered an iPod shuffle but there's a four week wait for delivery.
