Best excuses for getting off with speeding!

This topic came up in conversation yesterday.

I was WELL over the posted limit one dark winters morning when a set of blue lights appeared in the distance behind.

Knowing it was me i pulled into the first safe available stopping place and got out of the car.

The conversation went roughly as follows.

POLICE Do you know why i've stopped you sir?

ME yes, speeding

POLICE in a hurry sir?

ME yes, rather

POLICE whats the rush for?

ME i don't want to be late for court!

POLICE at this time of the morning, its only 7.45am!

ME yes the court is 130 miles away and i don't want to be late for the first day in Crown Court.

POLICE you know you should have set off earlier so you didn't have to rush.

ME i agree. I'm a witness, along with one of the passengers, whilst the other passenger is the Plaintiff in the case and he lost a foot in an accident. I picked everyone on time but one of the guys realised he had left all of his papers at home so we had to return and this caused the delay.

POLICE can you prove you're in court today?

ME yes here's the various letters from solicitors etc.

POLICE thats the best excuse i've heard for a long time, you'd better get on your way now, but please slow down.

ME thank you very much officer.

I resisted the temptation to use &

Anyone else got any good excuses?
