Mood: is it the weekend yet??
Is it just me??

Right, I know I'm just coming back to Ducatis after a year on a boring, dead reliable Honda SP2 BUT are the "quirks" my less than 4 weeks old 999S has, considered by this venerable bunch of like minded enthusiasts to be:

A - perfectly acceptable, they all do that, why worry
B - normal but worth getting checked
C - hum, I be getting a little bit concerned
D - pass me the phone and dealer number please

In no particular order

1) Bike doesn't want to start no matter how nicley I treat it, eventually fires up when it feels like it. Optimate, warm garage, kind loving owner make no difference

2) engine management light comes on at standstill or slow speed, dealer helps me out by letting me know its the clutch lever micro switch, it just needs a small bend putting in it??

3) whenever I fuel it ( taking care not to put too much in and go to neck height) it still p'ss's petrol all over the place from the tank filler cap

4) the gearbox downshift feels like a sponge, works OK when you click quickly through gears but if you do it slowly each gear takes about 45 degrees of lever movement through treacle , ends up with false neutrals all over.

5) has brilliant fuel injection, handles wonderfully and is nice to look at.

I, personally, wouldn't stand for 1-4! Get the dealer to sort them.
I'm afraid you are going to have to learn to live with point 5

Agree with AK47 get 1 to 4 sorted asap by Mr Dealer.

I have an 04 749S and haven't encountered any of those. prior to first service bike would occasionally cut out at random hasn't done it since Termis went on with new chip and fuelling was checked.

Not got a 999, but 749 is similar enough for this discussion?

I wouldn't stand for it. Here are my thoughts ...

1) Had same problems. Get the dealer to set it up properly.

2) Happens to me too. Dealer mumbled something about slow running ... as if they are not meant to go slowly perhaps? I ignore it.

3) Never had that happen. Not good enough.

4) I know gearboxes can be variable, but mine it so slick and positive it's a joy to use. Compared to Kirst's M620 that is really quite clunky.

I'd pass you the phone if I thought the cable woudl reach.

1) Is a normal 749/999 feature
2) Get it looked at by the dealer
3) See 2)
4) Try adjusting the lever/pedal position to suit your style
5) Is unheard of. You sure it's fuelling OK????

Ha, Ducati Leeds have now booked it in for next week, they moved it forward from May 9th.

I had the petrol ****ing all over the tank problem. I just whipped the cap off and re-seated the rubber seal between cap and tank.

I know things should work fine first time but sometimes I fix the little quirks myself rather than having to wait for the dealer, then get them to check it out when it next goes in.

Currently my 749 has a little coolant leakage problem. the joys of owning a duke.
