My MS1000 decided that it wouldn't start yesterday. I had just refuelled and when turning on the ignition the self check stops with the EOBD (engine disabled) light still on.
Phoned the RAC to get me home and was told there was a 3 hour wait (this was at 7:30pm) !!! As I was only 20 miles from home I was lucky enough to be able to call on a mate and he picked me up with his truck to get the bike home.

I've just phoned the dealer to get them to take a look at it (in warranty) and rather than come and pick it up themselves I had to phone an AA number in France (Freephone) to get them to recover the bike to the dealer. Do other dealers do this? Is it normal practice in your area?

This is the second breakdown I've had (previous was with S4 Monster) and on both occaisions the recovery was carried out the AA and not the dealer. I just wondered if the dealer was being stingy on the customer service front.....

Ducati Assist is aligned with AA for the GB component of their Europcover. Whilst under warranty all their pick ups are done by the AA.

OK - thanks for the confirmation.

Just went to recheck the bike prior to the nice man picking it up - and it decides to start just fine !!!!

I fear I have one of theose intermittant faults that result in the claim '.. we couldn't find anything wrong with it sir....'

The next few weeks could be troublesome....

Forgot to come back with the resolution: the problem was tracked down to a faulty antenna. It's a coil of wire inside a plastic cover around the ignition switch that detects the signature of the key being used to check it matches the one the ECU has been programmed with.

Apparently someone prior to me had done a dodgy repair job on it and used some type of glue that had destroyed the insultaion around the antenna wires and therefore the ECU failed to recognise the key and therefore shutdown. I should have read the instruction manual better since there's a procedure detailed in there to bypass the security check if you know the right codes etc. so you can get home.
