Do the Great Ocean Road! It's amazing.

You'll love the road - but it's VERY heavily policed these days so take it easy.

There's so much to do over there, and really cool places to visit that you'll just need to do it. It will be quite warm though so make sure you drink heaps of water!

And buy a hat and some 30+ sunscreen!!

Fraser Island is brilliant for a couple of days - biggest sand island in the world - you can camp over there and there's no speed limit on the beach (four wheels are best here not two !!). It's just over halfway between Sydney and Brisbane.

Then there's the Gun Barrel Highway - dirt track from Adelaide to Perth running through the Nullarbor Plain. It's supposed to be an amazing adventure. You do it on dirtbikes - I think there are places you can hire machines at either end, check the Net. (see the link - although I've had nothing to do with these guys so can't vouch for their services, but it gives you an idea - http://www.hctravel.com/austral.htm). Have fun you lucky, lucky b'stard.

Summer down under.........

Adelaide = wineries/drinking, local hinterland is picturesque
Melbourne = food/cafe capital, great ocean road for the sceanery.
can travel via the coast or via the mountains(the pick if on a bike about 1000-1500kms) to..
Canberra = surprised people know it exists, ok for a brief visit to the capital for some history then onto (300kms) ..
Sydney ='lifestyle' city, thats beaches, eating and more beaches, good local rides and sight seeing in the area then up the coast (1000kms) to
Brisbane = main capital from which people go north, rain forrests,Noosa, barrier reef etc or south to the gold coast(brisvagas) or Byron Bay etc again some good local rides and also between Sydney and Brisbane.

For that length of time most people buy a car/van (petrol about $1.50lt) and drive their way around, mix it up with hotels and camping. Most people are surprised by the distances you cover between towns. Further north you go the hotter it gets 30 - 38 deg and humid. You can also get some cheap flights now (not sleay jet cheap) if you want to fly and hire a car.

When you arrive get your self a copy of the motorcycle atlas (Hema? about 12 squid) it lists the 50 top rides in australia. Good way to plan your route even if in a car.

Other than that, enjoy.......a pint is a pot down south and a scooner from Sydney up, not really as big a a pint, but then we like our beer cold.

cheers, alb916
