Looking at buying an S4R - need advice

Hi,

New to the forum. I am selling my SP1 and i am currently looking at a S4R. Does anybody have any advice on what to look out for and what questions to ask?
The bike is and 03 model listed for £4550 at a dealers. It has 12,000 miles on the clock. Does any body know when the next service is due and is it a biggy?

Many thanks

Nathan

Hi and welcome.

I do love the Sp1's very nice!! S4r is basically a naked 996 so the usual Ducati stuff to look out for im sure someone else will be along to direct you to a thread or try a search. The S4r has only been out a few years so has all the later electrics etc.

At 12,000 miles or 2 years the major service should be carried out which includes a belt change I would ask if this has been done as it can be around 550-600. Also ask if the rockers have been checked to as part of the service.

I'll have a pint of Guinness seeing your at the bar

Just noticed your in bristol to, which dealer is this at? its quite cheap for an 03' S4r

At 12,500 the bike should've just had a major service which includes checking valve clearances, replacing belts and all fluids etc... A big service that'll typically cost somewhere in the £600 region.

If it's had this, fair enough, if it hasn't then budget for spending an extra 600 or so, or use it as a bargaining chip to knock the price down.

Ducati's service interval alternates between a small service and a bigger one every 6000 miles or every year (whichever comes first)

Hi Lee,

The bike is at a dealer in romford, Essex. I have asked about the servicing but i just get Trade bargain, HPI clear back from them.

Sp1 is on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MESE%3AIT&rd=1

I live in Warmley so not too far from Ducati Bristol, what are they like for servicing?

Ducati Bristol have been fine with servicing for me usual high costs though as they are official dealers. If the S4r you get is out of warrnaty next time I would go to one the independent specialists

More important what colour is it???

Nice Sp1 to love one as a second bike for sunny days
