I had a couple of Peugot 405`s................nice cars to drive but the most expensive cars I have ever owned.

All french cars seem well styled and built but cost the earth to run and maintain.

Should have bought a volvo

H reg ( 89 ) 2 litre turbo 940 auto saloon

Full record of purchases from new

18 Oil filter & oil changes from new

2 Exhausts from new

2 Batteries

Couple of bushes etc on front suspension

A dozen bulbs

2 sets of brake pads

Few sets of tyres

1 Second hand ECU

Only broken down once since we bought it 10 years ago (ECU)

Used every day

Washed every few months whether it needs it or not.

Never garaged

No rust - anywhere

Sunroof leaked last year - sealed with duck tape

180,000 miles

Annual costs including purchase - £500

Worth 2p

Refuses to die

Havn't got the heart to sell her.

Oh dear, oh dear...somebody with too much time on their hands and working out the veracity of everything other people say

I used to spend a lot of time working in Lyon - well actually l'Isle d'Abeau just South East of Lyon and about 5 kilometres from Bourgoin Jallieu - so I used to drive there about once every two months.

I would have thought that it was obvious to anyone that a comment like that wasn't intended to be taken literally. Obviously, I didn't do 155 mph ALL the way, I had to stop at the Peage, stop for fuel, slow down for slower moving traffic and slow down when I got to the peripherique.

Perhaps I should have said that I was in a hurry and wherever, and whenever, possible drove the whole journey with the accelerator mashed into the floor - it was a UK car with the speedo in mph and registered 155 flat out.

Somehow, it seemed easier to say all that the way I said it in my original message
