Discs Semi v Full floating - how to spot? + Wave ??

Erm...as the topic really.

Since I'm renewing quite a bit of stuff - I quite fancy the idea of new discs (although I really fancy some Wave discs so any experience of those would be appreciated.....

Anyway back on topic:

How can you visually tell the difference between Semi and Full-floating disc?

Is it the distance between the disc and center or how its mounted??

Cheers - Frank

Frank the full floaters have rotors that are mounted to the carrier allowing a bit of free play, the semi floating discs have rotors mounted to the carrier with the edition of a stiffly sprung washer that takes out the free movement but still allows it to move when enough force is applied.
ON the OEM Ducati discs the Fully floates have Iron rotors as opposed to the stainless mix of the mon floaters hence them going rusty at this time of year.
My Braking Waveys are excellent discs, I have used them on both road and track and am very happy with them

Thanx for confirming Kev, kinda thought it was that way and knew my 900ss only had semi-float.

Must admit I fancy either a pair of Brembo FF discs or the proper Braking Waveys that you mention, gutted to miss out on a pair with only 200mls on them for only £150

Not watching properly and got sniped again !!!

Cheers - Marra.

On the subject of full-floaters...

I took my 888 (with full-floaters) to the local Tyrespot depot to have a new front tyre fitted whilst I waited in the waiting room. After fifteen minutes the door was opened by the guy doing the tyre change on my bike, and he warned me that my front brake discs were "seriously loose" and may need "looking at!" Ho hum.

(As an aside: I've another 888 with bog-standard semi-floating front discs. This bike stops quicker, and gives much more feel through the lever).
