We've had a few people 'cut off in their prime' this month and so I'm thinking of changing the current automated expiry routines.

What happens now is that 3 days before your membership is due to expire, the message board sends out a reminder. Then on the last day of the month (or one deay earlier if you're Skids or Ray) your access to the message board reverts to a non-member status. Both the reminder email and status changes are automated routines and no manual intervention is required by the webteam or anyone else.
As soon as Lizzie gets your completed renewal form, she updates the subscription dates on the message board and you then have access to the membership areas again.

Personally I don't think the 3 days notice is enough, I'm thinking of increasing this to 2 weeks or 4 weeks notice - any thoughts/opinions ?

Eamonn

PS Martin, until Lizzie gets the membership details up to date, I've reinstated your membership on the board.

Membership lasts 12 months, so four weeks seems proportionate and should give most folks time to arrange their renewal.

Martin, I think it's because there's going to be a secret ballot about whether or not you should be allowed to rejoin. There's a (previously) top secret system whereby an e-mail saying your membership was about to lapse and to vote in a secret pole. Most people don't know you so probably voted 'for'. I, on the other hand ...

Now some of you might know, some might not, most probably don't care, but I'm in Poland at the moment and haven't had an opportunity to send in my cheque.

Luckily I got an email reminder to say I was going to be cut off, so I sent of a PM to explain the situation that I'll send my cheque in at the weekend when I get back, but to no avail - no reply, and I've been chopped. Can't see the DSC Topics, officially no longer a member.

Rant over
Martin
Thats 'coz you're not part of the "inner echelon" mate.

Sorry Martin; yes I got your PM and I should have replied to it by now but I'm a bit preoccupied with the trackdays and now dealing with the monies for the pig roast. Anyone can pay over the phone using a credit or debit card, my home number is 01892 545975. I'll PM you my mobile number so you can call during the day or text me your card number.

As other people have said, one of the new things introduced when we changed boards is that losing your roundel is automatic once the expiry date arrives; it's nothing personal. In fact there is a glitch in that you actually get booted out at 00.00 on the morning of the last day of the month. I'm correcting those as I as deal with the renewals, but it's going to take a while to get that one resolved.

As for renewals, every DSC member, board user or not, gets an invitation to renew their membership about a fortnight before the end of the month. I was slightly late this month, sending out 52 letters on 20 July, but it's a balancing act between sending them out so early that people think 'it's not due yet, I'll deal with it later' (and then not doing so) and giving them enough time to get the money to me before their membership has actually expired. The message board reminder is a new thing, since May I think, but it will never be the only reminder you get (unless the reminder gets lost in the post or you've moved and not told me!).

If you don't renew, you'll get a reminder a couple of weeks after expiry; if you still don't renew (or let me know you don't wish to renew), you get a final reminder six weeks or so after expiry. So that's another 97 letters I've sent this month.

I'm about to go through the renewals I've received in the last couple of days to reinstate roundels. Letters to those people with new membership cards is probably going to have to wait until Saturday though, sorry.

Last thing - we don't as yet have the facility to join or renew online, though we are working on that one. Sharpy - you know you'd love to join us - click here http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/fi...ershipForm.pdf to download the membership application form (or I can send you one if you can't print it out).
