Hi,

Can anyone confirm what the letters are for each of the years for the STs please.

I had a look at the Ducati ST Faq so I know vaguely what the first 9 digits mean (e.g. my ST4S has ZDM520AA), and the faq says the 10th digit is the year and the 11th a check digit.

What would the year digits for an 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 bike be - 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively ?

Mine's a 2001 ST4S & the digit in question is a 1.

If the VIN number is:

ZDM3H99R91B012329

ZDM = manufacturer code (i.e. region code Z = Europe, country code D = Italy, manufacturer code M = Ducati)

3H99R = TYPE = model information: model, engine type (manufacturer assigned code). For US models, Ducati uses the last three digits to indicate the engine type.

9 = check digit for factory use. A single number or the letter X (varies) used to verify the accuracy of the transcription of the VIN

1 = Model Year 2001

R = model year 1994 S = model year 1995 T = model year 1996

V = model year 1997 W = model year 1998 X = model year 1999 Y = model year 2000

1 = model year 2001 2 = model year 2002 3 = model year 2003

B = plant of manufacture (manufacturer assigned code), B = Bologna

012329 = six digit serial number. Some manufacturers restart at 000001 each model year, while others just continue sequentially. Some use different number groups for different models.

saj288, that's not completely correct.

US models and post-2002 Euro models have a 17 character VIN as you describe. So your codes for character 10 are correct.



Prior to 2002, European models had a 17-character VIN such as:

ZDM H100AA Y B 004940

where the 10th character uses the year code as you describe. (Y = 2000 in this case) but character 9 is not a check digit.
