A better choice for a 996 is 15/43 (98-links.)

What are the implications of running 14/39 Shazaam? Or even 14/43 ?

The following engine speeds in 6th gear at 120Kmph will give you an idea of the difference in a 996:

15/36 3,890 rpm 94-links (stock gearing)
14/36 4,168 rpm 94-links
14/39 4,516 rpm 96-links
15/43 4,647 rpm 98-links
14/43 4,979 rpm 98-links
