I had the same dilema. A new 2004 999S or 2005 999 Base. Tried both in a test ride and the fuelling was much better on the 2005 999 demonstrator than on the 2004 999S demo. Could be that the 2005 999 only had 200 miles on it and the 999S had 1500 but the 2005 bike felt smoother, and felt better screwed together.

In the end I opted for the 2005 999 Base (red mono) as the handling will be much the same, although the Ohlins will have a slight advantage, but the engine power is very similar and the fuelling map, in my test ride, was better on the 2005 bike. I also get the better styling..imho.

Bike arrives early April...can't wait !!
