Peak Performance in Exeter is your best bet for a expert view.
Main thing is to get the sag right and then dial in the damping to suit.
Once you have the right amount of sag then I usually start off with Compression and rebound backed right off and push on the rear end and watch how quickly the backend returns. without any damping wound on it should compress and return quite quickly Then start adding rebound damping to give a nicely controlled return, if you add to much it will appear as though it doesnt recover to its starting position, which is when you start suffer from pack down over a series of bumps. Ideally it should just recover to its start position in one controlled movement. From there Dial in some compression damping, I usually set the adjuster about a third of the way and then go for a test ride. If rebound feels about right I can then concentrate on the compression setting. A road with a rutted feel is ideal as to much compression will easily be detected.
