I did mine using a mop and polish, you need to start off fairly coarse and gradually use finer paste. The bright "chrome" effect will dull to a nice lustre once you've ridden the bike a bit. It isn't too bad a job with the system taken off so you can deal with the individual sections.

If you want to do a really spot on job you'll need to use a bit of light emery to get rid of the forming marks from the downpipes and headers.
