PC tech - Damn LCD monitor - help please!

Wifey bought me a nice 17" LCD monitor two years ago - so I know it cost quite a bit but, I had (and still have) a 15" Sony Trinitron that just keeps on going and going - so I was loath to change it over until the performance of the Sony dropped off.

I tried the LCD just after being given it and it 'appeared' to be ok.

Of course the inevitable happened and at work I now use a 17" monitor and its hard to go back to a smaller unit at home.

On trying the LCD recently the damn thing is now playing up.
Its a BTC / NFREN monitor, a Korean firm who seem to make all sorts of stuff but the customer service is non-existant.

The monitor 'flickers' on warm-up but settles down after 5 mins or so - however, without warning the flickering starts again - (even the message board header and links set it off going crazy but scrolling down so they disappear cures that problem temporarily).

I suspected an incompatability with my Nvidia Geoforce4 MX440 graphic card but no longer think this is the case as the monitor can be 'forced' to start flickering crazily again just by altering the contrast to a very high or low setting.

One funny thing I did notice is that the video cable supplied with it appears to have one pin missing at either end - not needed??? I should look into that I guess in case the wrong cable was packaged by accident.

Also - I've read that an LCD monitor really needs to be driven by a card with a digital interface such as DVI??? - comments please.

Its a lovely monitor but its driving me loopy !!!!!

Cheers - Frank
