For all base and laquer proffesionally [as on my DD bike] base coat,flash off for 5/10mins then straight on with laquer.Good idea as Mav says to give the laquer a grip coat first.
If you base coat is particulary poor in finish and covered in flatting lines then follow Mavs way.
