Norton is very good at what it does, but it does takeover somewhat. I used to use Norton, but for at least the last six months I have been using Antivir
http://www.free-av.com/ and Spybot
http://www.safer-networking.org/ and I have not had any problems at all, and recommend them as a free alternative.
