Question Ignition / Fuel pump fuse blowing - ideas please?

1993 900ss - rebuilt tank - std coils.

Cant think of anything else pertinent as my brain is fried.

Interesting ride to and from the V-Twin meeting today - was 'only' supposed to be 300mls but turned into 370mls.

However - quite wet from the Humberbridge to the event - about 60mls.

Bike is flawless all the way down - left engine stood for about 45mins, then go to start for a picture call...nothing! nada!! Zilch!!!

No fuel pump running - straight to fuse box - 15A fuse has blown.

Quick check; cant see anyhting amiss - replace fuse with 15A spare - POP! fuse blows as soon as the starter is hit.

Assume its 'damp' got in the electrics somewhere so more detailed check, still cant find anything. Waited about 2 hours for the welcome sun to do its work. Managed to scrounge a 15A fuse from a kind 900SS owner - Lifted tank, tried rocking bike in gear as well.

Fuse in - fuel pump whirls - fires up a treat....

Totally stumped.

If the fuel pump was stalling / sticking in some way - would it blow the fuse?

I suspect ignition rather than fuel pump but, sadly it means electrical fault finding which 'aint my strong point

Cheers - Frank
