Just speaking about this on yesterdays ride out. Best bikes if you couldn't buy a Ducati were reckoned to be a GSXR 750, a Trumpet 675 for hooning or a Moto Guzzi Griso for a lazy jaunt out for a pub lunch.

On the other hand....

I rode a Multistrada for the first time yesterday. In the real world, on real roads, do you really need more than 85-100 bhp delivered in a grunty, torquey way? I rode the Melton-Colsterworth road yesterday on my own and didn't see many other bikes, but there are two fireblades and an R6 riding in a group that know the answer to that one
