At the end of the day, Ducati is a relatively low volume manufacturer so it needs to get as much leverage as it can from bulk ordering through shared components - just look at the 916/748 and the 999/749 - especially when there is increased pressure for DMH to turn a profit.
They also need to target those that like the styling of the 1098 but are baulking at the price. Given the overwhelmingly positive praise heaped on the 1098 so far versus the so-so response to the 999 (not trying to put any bias on this but just look at the sales figures). |
For Sure! Manufacturing costs are everything but also both series have always been part of the Superbike range.
