Wiring problem has me baffled?

Here goes,
DD 620. the battery went caput at Oulton on Wednesday fitted a new one every thing was ok. So now when i switch the ignition on the fuel pump engages but the solenoid just clicks, the bike starts if i bridge the solenoid or run a seperate live and earth to it. When the plug is disconnected from the solenoid and the ignition is on it shows 12v on one wire and 3v on the other plug it back in and it shows 12v in both before you press the starter button.

Also after the fuel pump has primed when you press the starter and the solenoid just clicks the pump primes again. This probably makes no sense but any comments are welcome.

Thanks.
