The Brake Bike

I did CSS last week and I got to ride the Brake Bike. What an awesome piece of kit. It is basically a bike with big outriggers fitted so that it won't fall over.

The aim of the drill is to lock the front wheel and then release, demonstrating that locking the front does not have to cause an off, sounds easy ..

First I watched a fellow student. The first few attempts he just pull bigger and bigger stoppies. After some hints from the instructor he tries again at a higher speed and produces some impressive front wheel skids. Another few tries and the length of the skids decrease (this is what youre trying to do)..

I was amazed that he combined a stoppie and a skid at the same time, doesn't even touch the outriggers down. Must be a riding god.

Now it's my turn. It pretty much goes as above. My stoppies are not as high, but with more speed I get the skids going. I even manage the front wheel skid during a stoppie.

It not till the end that I realize that I didn't touch the outriggers down either. Most people don't, they just provide the confidence you need to lock the wheel.

Great fun..
