996 SPS starting

Year 2000 model, when its been stood for a week or so it can be hard to start. I remember Tim/Rattler saying exactly the same about his.

Have been told that Ducati changed the starter gears from 2001 onwards (996S with similar motor) to make the engine spin faster when cranking over. Anyone confirm if this is true and if it works better?

Anyone with SPS's have the same problem?
