Thanks folks - at least I now know I'm not the worlds biggest fool for the start of 2006. Agree with the comments - if it was any good then it would have caught on. I like the idea of a head up display though !!

I guess I'll have to stick to the 749 mirrors (very astute observation there Brent - how did you know I was trying to aleviate the lack of rearward vision on my 749 ??).

Hav'nt Ducati launched a retrofit set of mirrors for the 749/999 that actually work?I'm sure i've seen some carbon fibre/black mirrors in a magazine recently.

I was looking into these a while back.

The company told me that they are currently only available from one stockist in Newcastle http://www.customlids.co.uk/helmets/reevu/reevu.htm
but that they would be more widely available in 2006.

For those that have tried it, what was the problem? Was the rear-vision too intrusive or that the image moved around with your head?

yeah it's £300.. but only good if you're on an upright bike, when I tried one on and sat on a bike (average bike) all i could see was the ceiling or sky it would be outside... So i guess it's ok if you're speeding and want to see the helicopter! ha ha...

I think and wonder if it would be a little offputting too as it's not all that clear and things look further away than they really are, i trust my mirrors and overlook the shoulder best..

I actually have one of the bicycle helmets and find it quite useful.

Despite the fact that every one of Berto's comments seem to be hugely negative - this time he's not too far from the truth.

On the road I find it too distracting to use to frequently, as it requires an effort to almost 'defocus' your eyes to look into the mirror (to see whats behind) - take in the information and the have to 'refocus' to the road ahead again.

However, for an occasional look-behind - without having to risk causing unwanted movement on a bicycle, its a good idea.
