Me too...Got a Garmin Street Pilot for Mrs Jools about 6 years ago when they were 'new' technology and cost a feckin fortune. She got lost with it as well.

According to the kids who were in their late teens at the time she got lost because she argued with it all the time and when it said "In 200 yards, turn left" she would answer it back and say "I'm not going down there you stupid thing...". Once she'd ignored what it was telling her to do, the Sat Nav would chirp up and say "Off route...recalculating" at which point she'd shout at it and switch it off.

Bargain at the price then

So she shouts at the technology as well as you then Jools-at least she's being even handed.

Tom Tom One should be fine, the 510 doesn't do much more and the 710 / 910 come with bluetooth phone (which is ****) and european maps, major roads only with the 710, street level + USA on the 910. She probably won't use any of that, so the One should be more than adequate.

I use an iPaq with TomTom 5. Street level European maps, but they go out of date when new junctions get built so occassionally you need a bit of artistic licence. And I've found some errors on it too... like it tells you to keep left when you need to keep right on the A34 Newbury bypass!

There's a learning curve to get used to using the software but it's not difficult. And I think it helps to have some basic map reading skills so you can relate what's on the screen to what's outside just by a quick glance.

Overall I'm chuffed enough with it.
