Dan,sorry if I've confused things,this is the bike I'm thinking of,the '89/90 900SS.

I know its an SS and not a Sport because I had one and it says so on the side panel.
If I remember,the rear hugger was a rather ugly thing that followed the line of the swingarm on the r/h side then looped over it on the left to form the chain guard.
The '88/89 750 Sport has the same set up.
Is'nt the '91 onwards hugger a two piece item?
Looking at that pic reminds me of when I bought mine back at the end of 1990.I bought it new from Hoss Elm of Moto Cinelli.He did me a good deal on it as the new ('91) model had just been anounced.It was a bit of a shock to the system after the FZR1000 Exup I had before,...........those vibes,........that rock hard suspension,.........that finicky Weber carb!
I loved that bike tho,after two years and 18,000 miles,I swapped her for a '92 851.
It must have made the right impression as Ive only ridden Dukes ever since.
