My 2p...

Founder/Director of an e-commerce company that provides websites and consultancy to small-medium enterprises. Have worked as a programmer for far too many years with far too many languages and specialised in intarweb stuff for a while. Currently working for a large financial management company (again) between London (City), San Francisco, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. Previously employed for skills in: electronic engineering with BT, government work (hush hush), went to Uni, worked behind a bar and DJ'ed (mixed) records for many years. Have BTEC in small bore firearms and can speak French, Spanish, Italian and some Czech. Have been taught to fly a helicopter but never passed any exams. Have also been drunk enough to burst the blood vessels in my eyelids. Twice. Disclaimer: Some of the above may not be true.

I've got a Computing Technology degree but I know feck all except the basics about computers nowadays. Did 12 years as a field systems engineer doing hardware and software support on Hewlett Packard's bigger commercial systems then started teaching Unix and Networking.

Got drawn into the training and workforce development world and have spent the last 10-15 years doing that. Various roles such as a Learning Consultant, Course Developer etc. Ended up as HP Services UK Training Manager, then European Technical Course Development Manager so I've now got professional qualifications in Instructional Design and Management

For the last 4 years I've had a worldwide role in Performance Improvement for HP, which is a methodology that analyses the underlying causes for any underperforming workforce and designs a portfolio of solutions to improve and monitor performance gained as a result. Really enjoyed this and became the architect of HP's corporate methodology for this.

A lot of project management expertise goes into this line of work and as a result I've managed several global projects across multiple cultures and businesses.

Unfortunately, I'm quite good at project management (I never intended to be a career project manager - only did it as a neccessary part of the Performance Improvement role) so in the corporate shake up that's going on to shed 15,000 jobs, I've now found myself managing a project to outsource a whole load of European jobs to India

Don't enjoy the human aspect of that much, and I since I could be outsourcing my own job with this project I'll be looking to set myself up as a self employed Performance and Training Consultant for small and medium sized businesses if I get a big fat redundancy cheque
