750SS cutting out

Hi all,

Just bought my first Ducati, a 91 750SS. 16k miles, recently serviced, cheap! Collected it yesterday, and planning to use it mainly as a track toy.

Took it out for a first spin this afternoon - mostly good, starts and idles easily, clutch is smooth, gearbox good, revs cleanly throughout the range, handles cleanly, brakes fine. Cosmetically scruffy, but it'll clean up

One small problem, however. Two or three times when the engine was getting hotter, it started cutting out - felt like it was running out of petrol, didn't want to rev. Slowed it down, let it cool a bit, and all was fine again.

What could be causing this? What should I be looking at? (At this point I should mention that I am mechanically 'amateur', so small words, please!)

Cheers.
