Did consider the KTM Shaun - 'cos I know how highly you rate yours, also the Multistrada Paul which I found too vibey and they don't seem to hold their value secondhand - just preferred the BM. Can't wait to drive it out to Spain in the autumn, it'll sail up the bad roads in the campo

After watching The Long Way Round I was a little put off both the BMW and the KTM!

The KTM, because they pulled out of the gig, worried their bikes wouldn't handle it.

And the BMW because they were so damn heavy!

Reckon I'll get me one of those little Russian Dnepr/Ural bikes. That seemed to handle the rough stuff pretty well, although maybe not so comfortable two up.

The new GS is the same weight as my 996 ... BMW have lopped 30kgs off the old one.

BDG,

yep, I am pretty convinced that'll be the replacement for the R1100S. 3 of my mates have them and they swear by them. One is an ex sports bike rider and he says you can still have a ball without going stupidmph, the others are both ex GS owners. Says it all really.

I think the KTM has a lot of the GS positives and better quality suspension components and cheap, nylon bodywork. The only downside seem to the slighty questionable seat comfort, a chain (not idea for maga tours) and the seat height.

How tall are you? Any issues?

rgds, Rob
