I'm glad that I've done a 2nd year on a carbed bike as it does take a different riding style to the more "point and squirt" of more powerful bikes.
Hopefully next year this will be useful when I join the "point and squirt" brigade.......

lol.

lucie go for 620. you'll beat more than you think, your riding will improve more especially if as expected there are combined grids as you wil be having great scraps with the top 583 riders.

Do you really think you need to spend much on your 583 Lucie? Chances are it'll be fine with new belts and valve clearances done, a bit of piston slap when cold is perfectly normal on the older 583 engines, and the bottom ends are pretty solid and don't tend to wear out. If it was me I'd fit new belts and let nelly set the valve clearances, spend no more on it than that apart from oil and filter change, and keep on using that for now. If it should go bang for any reason, switch to the 620 for the rest of the season!

I'm with Paul P on this one, interesting to hear FIL2's view...the riding style required on the 583 is all about corner speed!

Improve that skill then transfer it over to the 620 for 2008.

Chasing and passing the 620's on a 583 is the buzz, it forces you to really think about your racing.

I was slower on the 620 at Cadwell than the 583, probably just not used to it yet? But when I sort my braking out I'll carry the corner speed just fine.

Go budget on the 583, quick refresh, oil etc...ready to roll.

Either way you'll be a superstar out there Grib!

imho another year on the 583 will earn you dividends on the 620 in perhaps 2008.....as mentioned by others the riding style of the 583 is different to a 620...both have little power, but the 620 can flatter you, as you know to get any speed out of the 583 it has to be ridden hard everwhere and imho i think you got more to learn on the 583 and if you jumped onto the 620 now i doubt you would go any quicker " cept on the straights ".....i know and im sure Chris, Paul and andy would agree this second year on the 583's has helped our riding considerably..

I'm struggling with the different riding styles needed as I haven't ridden both.
Both the 583 and 620 are all but identical apart from say 10hp difference so why does one lend itself to a corner speed riding style when neither have too much hp ?
I've followed the same good rider on a 583 and a 620 and corner speed was always the same, the only difference was the straight line speed which I think is shown in the lap times between the best 583 and the best 620.

Maybe the top 583 riders are trying extra hard as they do have the least hp and when they move up they find the extra 10hp a luxury !

Hmmmm - it will be interesting next year to compare the lap times of the new 620 boys who rode 583s this year - at the faster circuits there may be a few secs diff, all down to straight line speed. The cornerspeed will be the same I reckon.

And that i think is possibly the downside !...if all of a sudden the 583'ers have that extra 13 bhp to play with on the straights they might start loosing some of the pressure to keep the cornerspeed and braking so late..!?.i think 2 years on the 583 may instill the mental attitude to use the extra power AND mantain the cornerspeed....!!

I think the 2 years on the 583 have made me a better rider...but its an assumption...................

Its DD and its Fun maybe you race in the class which you think offers you the best fun for effort.........!
