try taking the clutch slave off and get wiggling

not easy to do
but it helps to take the rear wheel off so the chain can run a little untrue and you can twist the chain and the front sprocket out the front

Nathan..... removed clutch slave...... bloody wiggled for ages.... rear wheel removed..... no joy gave in and split the chain..... You must have more patience than me !!

You dont want to shorten the wheelbase, makes the bike very unstable in long corners...

I am not only fitting a 38 rear, i am also going to move the wheel further back to achieve 500mm between the swingarm pivot and the wheel centre.

very true that the longer swingarm makes for a more stable set up
but
more stability = slower turning
you speak off a instabilaty in long corners, harder rear spring may help

the reason im doing this is because j hackett says do it....must be something in that?
( incidently its the same for the 998etc aswell as the 999, just cheaper and easier to achieve on the 999)

andy ive just got back from Assen with my bike and a 03 999r both with a smaller front sprocket and the then longer wheel base as i left out the 38 tooth rear , my 999s had a hard time turning on the über fast back section as i was still using a steep head angle , so i put it back to standard angle and fitted the 38 rear and the bike was a lot less effort to turn at high speed(over 240 kph)
ok 100% stable it wasnt but at high speed and 2 meters behind another bike the turbulance from the bike infront was the greatest problem to my instability!!

Nathan.... you must be doing something wrong..... the bikes should be behind you not infront !!!!!!

Interesting, did you ever measure the length your pivot to wheel centre was changing from/ to/between?
