Ooops, think there may still be problems

It is taking at least ten times as long to get each page to load today. P'haps everyone is trying to catch up with the posts missed yesterday?

Moley

PS Only have limited computer knowledge but happy to help if I can

Flanks - 'Grabddad' do you have some issues you want to discuss.

Anyways, seems like the MT need to spend some dosh on an upgraded system. I can highly recommend one of these but we'd probably have to put membership charges up by 10,000% ;

As ever in a Club with limited financial resources, in terms of membership income, the MT have to view how we can obtain the most benefit for all of the membership for each £1 that we spend. As stated earlier in this thread, the website is used by a minority of members and as such investment should be looked at in that light.

As part of the annual budgeting process the MT have already looked at our expenditure on the website and recommendations have been made.

You should start to see changes from March onwards.

The fact that Eamonn has had to increase the instantaneous connection level to 350 proves this is true.

It is a great shop window for the club and a potentially good source of advertising revenue.

It deserves a better platform than XMB

And the problem we have has exactly what to do with xmb?

And you are suggesting spending more money on a facility that does not benefit the majority of DSC members?

There is already a budget proposal on spend for the website for 2006.

There will be a discussion on the website under AOB.

Hmmmmm....

I couldn't get on for a while last night too....Firefox browser wouldnt even load the home page and just kept saying 'connection reset' ???

But if the server was down too - only to be expected I guess.

I agree that its looking like a solution is needed - but disagree with Henners abit about moving away from XMB. The problems to me seem more to be more to do with the hosting than the software (???) - also if the search functions on here were a little bit better than present that would be good enough for me, I remember having a mootch on the XMB website and noted the DSC implementation seem to be a few releases old.
(have a look on their forum sometime):
http://forums.xmbforum.com/

I like our website and find it freshingly easy to navigate and fast loading (when it does ) - by comparison have alook at the up-north website which is visually great but I find a bit difficult to navigate - or the ducati.ms site which is again superb but the way the forum threads work simply makes my head ache.

Lets keep the site simple - PLEASE !!!

You'll find that whilst xmb offers a lot of other forum softs ones like vbulletin are much much easier to use for web admin, need little work, provide excellent support and release valuable webteam time. the problem might well be server but more than likely its also to do with stuff like XMB doing refresh searches in todays posts thus keeping connections open and queries on the server database.

Thread views are easily changed as vbulletin offers many user definable options, check the User CP edit options panels to see what you can change and how you view the sites using it.

There is no simple solution but given that the webteam do this in their spare time whatever is decided upon should fit their needs first and foremost, it shouldn't be a full time job for them keeping the site running. Cost is hardly a factor, £100 for the software or £35 a year if you lease it.

Problem before was tooo many people looking at the site at the same time. the server has been adjusted to allow 250 people. Another problem we have had, is our ISP had a power failure causing the site and server to close down.

So, hence me asking what it was doing, as neither TP or Eamonn have left a mail to say the site needed re-booting.

Its that bit that pi$$es me off Too many fre loaders while paid up member can't get a look in.

When I got in last night I saw that it was down and it was simply unavailable - not the usual too many connections error. I rebooted it but as I was heading straight back out I didn't do anything else.

Please bear with us in the short term - we are on the job.
