Can't say I'd heard of this organisation but seems they talk a lot of sense...

Leave the poor bloke alone, he's no different from the rest of us fed up with stupid laws. In fact it probably pees him off more than the rest of us because of the amount of time he has to waste enforcing the more unreasonable laws when he could be using those same resources to actually do something to improve road safety.

according to the force he works for this is a par for the course penalty for this offence i'm not going to **** the guy off or anything BUT the bit that got my attention is the fact he thought he was speeding "safely" i thought that in the eyes of the police speeding at anytime is dangerous

It is so obvious that you have a big chip on your shoulder where the word "police" is used
I cant accept the fact that you say this to wind people up.
I for one find the remarks offensive, derogatory and insulting.
Why cant you take firmer control of your keyboard (and brain) and try to join in the general tone of the mail or thread.
I got done at 97, was doing well over 100 for some of the time I was being followed. Talked reasonably to the guy who pulled me up and got 3 points and 60 quid for 87 mph which is where this guy decided to put on the blue flashing things.
So if you accept a reasonable attitude in what you say and write, others tend to fall in line with that attitude you tend to display.
I can see, if you got caught speeding and used the tone you have showed in this mail and others, then of course you will get that attitude thrown back at you.
Please try to remember that the board is read worldwide

FWIW I think police should be punished more harshly than us Joe Public - they are supposed to be setting an example to us!

Did Mort make the headlines with his offence? Did he have to face an internal enquiry with his employers?
What real price will he ultimately pay?

I cant condone his actions, and would even look to distance myself from the "it was safe to speed" talk, Which is irrelivant!

I think your missing the point of "inappropriate use of speed" from the police viewpoint Nigel, ANY speed CAN be dangerous in the wrong place at the wrong time, we ALL like going "fast", isn't that why God invented trackdays

Surely were all entitled to be "off duty" at some point and to not be considered in our job 24/7. If so, then if he breaks the law outside of hours he should be treated in EXACTLY the same way as the rest of us do.

I wouldnt expect to lose my job for using Telewest broadband at *home*, despite actually working for Wanadoo/Freeserve....

OK so he didn't get a fine but as already said, his name and face have been plastered all over the media and he can probably kiss any promotion goodbye. From my point of view, I raced a guy in my car from the bottom of the M1 for about 6/7 miles until the guy suddenly slowed right down and stopped racing. I triumphantly carried on until the radiator grille of an unmarked Rover 820 turned blue. I had touched speeds of well over 110 but got 3 points and £60 fine. The (friendly) copper even offered to show me vid footage as it was "Very entertaining". They're not all *******s.
