one for you Kent guys.
Can anyone tell me the best locations in the kent area.

I'm looking to buy a house down there and would like to know the areas to avoid.

Best rural areas, some where one would retire to.
What would I be expected to pay for property.

thats a real tough one, it depends what your priorities are,
some of kent has problems with eduation, so have you any children. what do you need to access. trains- motorways access to ports or london traveling time etc. the are a vareity of demographics within kent as well as some areas that are week in industry. so is employment an issue? some ofvthese things may not be an issue for you but you might want to consider them because of the resale of property in the future.

id be happy to send you a few local property papers if it would help.
if you found something that catches your eye id be happy to point out the strengts and weeknesses as far as i can.

Well we live in Tunbridge Wells.....
... which is a great place to live. However, property prices tend to be directly proportional to how easy it is to get to London as this is still on the boundary of commuting distance - and also how good the schools are. So if you are thinking of retiring you might want to go a bit further south or east.

Too far to the east tends to be flatter countryside, Kent/Sussex borders are lovely (I'm biased of course) and there's some really pretty villages in the middle. North/north-west Kent is quite industrial (that's where I come from!).

I'll happily post you the property pages from our local paper which will cover this area but not a whole lot further east. U2U me if you want the paper or to chat about it. Michael is an architect so he probably has a better grasp of the types of houses prevalent in the area.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not interested in London,
I have not dependant children
I don't like neighbours.
I like seclusion. We have dogs and would not want to offend any immediate neighbours.
Can't remember the last time I travelled by bus or train.
I would like to rent it out though until I retired, to help pay for itself.

i guess you need to have identified an idea of budget. size of house ie number of bedooms etc. you might not ravel by rail etc but if your thinking of renting it, it could be a factor that would need to be considered as local industy etc.
