900 Carb model air box lid mods
Anyone got any pics or details of the air box lid mod`s
Will it work O.K with standard filter or do I need a K&N ?
Does the jetting need adjustment, do I need a dynajet kit ?

Thanks

Ian

Haa Haaa - this old beauty again eh?

I have so many links in my favs folder I cant remember the source anymore but, I think the basics are for a bike with a K&N / freeflow filter and a Stage 1 dynojet kit that you have the option of either:

Running with the airbox lid removed or

Drilling the living daylights out of the original lid.

I chose the latter and tested my new cordless drill

Here is an aftermarket frame that Dr.Desmo has constructed:

some info :

a bit more:

and at last I found the site I was finally thinking of:

Have Fun - Frank

Hi again,

Not too sure why the guy above had a slot cut out and had to lockwire the lid - it can all be done using stock parts.

I'd forgot I have my own pic as well:

The pic above has a K&N "Stage II" filter fitted. It is deeper than the standard item and the slots at the bottom corner are to clear the filter so that the can be fitted. I've got one of these myself.
Don't know about the lock wire - maybe he just lost the clips!

Air filter mods
I have a Dynojet stage two and K&N Filter fitted to my 900 SL. The top is cut out of the filter case lid to accomodate the filter. Which is dificult to fit in. I have the clips fitted ok to hold the filter case lid (or what is left of it).
When I get home tonight i'll try to post a picture to show this.
I don't know what benifits this gives as the mod was done before I owned the bike.

Pete

Not yet, but it is almost certain to happen this spring. I looked at two ST4's in the autumn. One was at a Ducati dealer where they offered me a good trade in of £2,000 for my bike but were asking £5K for a 2000 model bike with 12k miles. The other at a local dealer was a 1999 model in good condition with 14K on it. They were only asking £3,200 for it but only offered me £1,500 for the SS. So I decided to hang on just now and see if I can sell the SS privately in the spring as I should be able to negotiate a better deal without a trade in.
Whether I sell the SS or not I'm staying with Ducati. The knowledge I already have will still be there and I'll learn a whole lot more when I get a 4-valver.

Air Box Mod
Ian,
As promised the picture shows my air box lid cut away to allow for a K&N Filter.
The carbs were jetted by the previous owner.

As I sai d earlier I'm not sure what the benifits are but i'm sure the more Knowledgeable out there may tell us!!
