Slightly dumb struck
Everybody had to attend a meeting at work today to discuss cost reductions that will include redundancies.
Out of a Staff of 33 we were told 30 of the positions were being considered and at least 8 people will have to go and in the worse case of a hopeful contract falling through it could well be 15 people.

At the end of the meeting everybody gets an envelope, in it are a list of the 30 jobs, ranging from the Managing Director down to the part time cleaner.
Look through the list and my job isn’t listed, is this just an oversight or is it that I am deemed to be an essential member of the business. Re read the list, put names to job titles counted 30 of them worked out the three missing names and one of them was still me.

I am finding this hard to believe, as it is a shock to me. I’m also feeling a bit guilty as everybody else I have worked with for some years is on the list, some of them have young families while others would find it harder than I would to get another job.

Tomorrow at work should be interesting.

Kev

Thats a bummer Kev. What can I say but, hope and prey all ends well for everybody.

You should look on the positive side of things though. I do know of quite a few peeps that have been made redundant and then gone on to better things. Own business, better job, complete change of job and location.

All the best Kev.

Agree with Jon. Change is always unnerving but often change brings on better things in the end. Either way, best of luck, Kev.

Sorry to hear about that Kev. Having been through three rounds of redundencies I know it can be every bit as bad for those that stay, but Jon & Felix are on the money, change often brings better things. Just hope it doesn't drag on as it's often worse waiting than getting axed.

Good luck, and don't let it distrct you from your real purpose in life, creating the dogs nads of a DD racer!

good luck mate, not that you need by the sounds of it

would you be better off with a redundancy package and finding another job if you'll find it easier than the others to get another job as you say

just my 2 pence's worth

Thanks for al the replies guys. I'm hoping this is the companies darkest hour and if we get through this we may be able to look forward to a brighter future.
Up until recently I had been on shift for almost 17 years, maintaining and operating two complex pieces of plant, where along with my co shift workers we maintained the availability of the plant at around 95% every month. I am now responsible overall for the maning, operation and maintenance of the two pieces of plant.
Our newer 3rd plant has failed to perform as designed and along with a lack of a sales team getting in work income is down.
However a good well thought out restructure along with curing the problems with the new plant and one or two new customers for our existing services and all could be back on track.
Only time will tell.
