It's that time of year again. Anyone know how to get the engine casing really clean, especially the lower part down to the sump plug. Think the case lower on the 996R is sand cast and seems rougher than normal and looks discoloured. Seems the previous owner liked riding in the rain. Anyway, any suggstions? Also Ohlins fork bottoms, any way to get them pristine?

PARRAFIN !!!!

Lots of it, fill a spray bottle with the stuff, ( but do it outside ) and spray the bugger !!

Then hot soapy, nylon nail brush,
elbow grease,

then clean water, then have a brew, then dry it.

I HATE PAYING FOR CLEANING STUFF....

For those stubborn stains..........laugh ye not..........COKE and BROWN sauce...
bur wash it off a bit sharpish....

MR MUscle, stolen from the kitchen is good as well.

STEAM. (Not a Jet Wash)

This is better if the cases are stripped down, but steam cleaning did an amazing job on my heads (look factory new now).

WD40's good too, although paraffin's cheaper. Just remember to keep it away from the belts.

Best thing for drying the bike off????????????

A leaf blower / Vac most DIY shops (B&Q/Homebase) have them reduced this time of year, you may have to ask as they may be put away for next autumn. Got one a few weeks back reduced down to £30 does an excellent job of blasting water out from those nooks and crannies.

On the cleaning front Gt85 or WD40 used with a nail brush or toothbrush work well.

Seriously, it works...take a copper coin, 2p or similar, dip it in brown sauce or coke, wait a few mins, then wipe and rinse, hey presto......

IMAGINE what this crap does to your innards......

Another good one is a paste made of fairy liquid, washing powder and sugar. BUT DO NOT USE ON PLASTICS, scratches like a scratchy thing.

I find the salt and grime come straight off with a good old fashioned Brillo pad

Can't beat Gunk, put it on with sprayer work it in with a kitchen pan brush and was off.
