oily exhaust edge
I've been keeping my ducati 748 in my garage all winter and have kept
pulling it out to crank it up regularly. The last time I did this I
noticed in the outer edge of exhaust coming from the frontal cylinder
some oily stuff and you could also see the pipe is a little darker than the
other one. Even after I cutoff the engine I could still see some fumes
coming out of just that one exhaust. Oil still burning by the heat of the exhaust
I believe.
The other exhaust was dry as the desert so I'm a bit concerned but the
bike has very low mileage it's a 2002 model and I haven't noticed any
burned oil fumes coming out while the engine is running.
I have not taken out the plugs so I can't tell if there is any oil in the chamber.
I explained this to the mechanic over the phone and he thinks
it may be the gasket. If this is it will "only" cost me like $300 he said but I'm afraid it
may be something more serious. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Worn valve guides perhaps. Is the exhaust cloud blue or white on startup?

Mine too !

I have an X-reg 2000 model 748s, 5800 miles and does a similiar thing. No oil deposits, just a bit of smoke whilst cold from one exhaust.

Have been told its normal !?!?

I have had two 748`s and one pipe was always darker than the other + you will always get condensation in the cold weather.
