number boards
Has anyone spoken to the ACU about what is acceptable for number boards?

I don't want to go to the expense and hassle of fitting a single seat unit, and I don't really want to buy a cowl unless I really have to.

Would I be able to put white squares on the side of the (soft) seat running over onto the plastic seat fairing panels? If so, would these be alright?

If so, I'm kicking myself over the 39p that I could have saved by going for a single digit.

I think there are guidelines in the ACU book.

I'll take a look and let you know.

From ACU handbook....

5.8 NUMBER PLATES. They must be rectangular shape and be made from rigid and solid material with minimum measurements 285mm by 235mm

...even the bad grammar is per ACU book, nice!

Basically you need a plate big enough to fit your race numbers on. As long as the numbers are clear, you should be OK. The marshalls, race control and the timekeepers (if there are any) need to see the numbers as you pass at 100mph from 50 yards!!

I bought my number boards and numbers from Demon Tweeks.

They cost next to nothing (19p per digit I think) and they sell the 7" motorcycle numbers.

You can cut their rectangular boards to any shape you want.

New Era's booklet which comes with the membership pack also gives guidance on numbers/stroke width/edge distance etc.
