Take it to a metal polisher and ask him to buff it out and ask him to "mop" the can but not polish it. Will leave it in a nice satin finish as per race bikes.

Ah ha ... good idea. I was wondering whether to polish that out or not. If they

Can't find something that says "for racing use only" then it might confuse enough to let it go. Maybe.

Surely isn't illegal to polish those "unsightly marks" out on there is it?

From my humble knowledge of the law the police can use their proffesional training to assess if an exhaust is excessively noisy or not ..... if they deem it to be noisy they can then check it with a DB meter. This is regardless of markings or the lack of markings.

I guess if you were not reving the bike whilst sat next to a cop car and were trying to "run quiet" then the lack of markings on the can may help if pulled by the fuz

The big benefit comes at MOT time. If the can has no markings at all then it's at the discretion of the tester if it will pass or not ..... most will smile and pass a race can.

No need to grind it out, a very light "mop" will sort it.

I guess if you try to fill it and sand it back you will still see the words as the filler will always be a slightly different colour and show against the colour of the can.
